Verse by Verse

Understand every verse.

11,171 verses with a page of their own — what the verse means in plain English, who is speaking, what was going on around it, and where it sits in the whole story. Then the same again from a scholar's side, for when you want the Hebrew or Greek and the argument behind it.

Why a page for each one

Most verses are quoted far more often than they are understood. A line arrives on a graphic or in a sermon with no sense of who said it, who they said it to, or what came immediately before — and a verse read without those is a verse that can be made to mean almost anything.

So each page here does four small things: it gives you the verse, it tells you plainly what it means, it shows you the two verses either side so you can see the sentence it belongs to, and it points you back into the chapter. Nothing clever. Just the context that was always supposed to come with it.

Every page carries two readings. One is written the way a good teacher explains something they love. The other is the version with the original-language detail and the scholarly argument in view. They are the same two voices the app uses when you tap a verse.
