The Day of the LORD is described in terrifying detail.
Zephaniah prophesied during the reign of Josiah (640-609 BC), likely before or during the early stages of Josiah's reforms. His royal lineage (traced to Hezekiah) gave him unique access to the court. The syncretistic worship he condemns reflects the religious corruption inherited from Manasseh's reign.
