33Ner was the father of Kish, Kish was the father of Saul, and Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal.
The genealogy of Benjamin is given in greater detail, tracing the line through to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the family of Saul, including his sons and grandsons. This sets the stage for the transition from Saul to David in the narrative portion.
