1 Chronicles

1 The Family Record Lists of names that may seem tedious — but each one represents a life, a family, a thread in the tapestry God has been weaving since creation. 2 Judah's Line From Judah to Jesse to David. A genealogy that traces the royal line through centuries of names — each one a link in the chain toward a king. 3 David's Descendants David's sons and the kings who follow. The family tree of the dynasty God promised would last forever. 4 Jabez Hidden in a long genealogy, one man prays four sentences. God grants his request. Small prayers buried in big lists still matter. 5 East of the Jordan Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. Warriors who cried out to God in battle — and were helped, because they trusted Him. 6 The Levites The priestly tribe mapped out from Aaron to the exile. Their cities, their duties, their musicians. Worship has a family tree too. 7 Northern Tribes Issachar, Benjamin, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher. Brief entries — but every tribe counts. 8 Benjamin's Line A deeper look at Benjamin — the tribe that will produce Saul and the apostle Paul. God confirms the kingdom — not through ceremony, but through victory. 15 The Ark Arrives The second attempt — this time done right. Levites carry the ark. David dances. Music fills the streets. Joy done in order. 16 David's Psalm David composes a psalm for the ark's arrival. Give thanks, sing, tell the nations. Worship becomes the heartbeat of the kingdom. 17 God's Promise David wants to build God a house. God says: I'll build you a dynasty instead. The covenant that shapes the rest of the Bible. 18 Victories on Every Side David conquers the Philistines, Moabites, and Arameans. He administers justice and righteousness. The kingdom at its zenith. 19 The Ammonite War Kindness is repaid with insult. David's ambassadors are humiliated. War follows — but the Chronicler skips what comes after for David personally. 20 Wars Concluded Final battles with the Philistines. Giants fall. The military chapters close — and David turns his attention to something greater. 21 The Census David counts the people. A plague follows. David buys a threshing floor, builds an altar, and fire falls from heaven. This spot will hold the temple. 22 Preparations Begin David can't build the temple, but he can prepare everything for Solomon. Stone, iron, bronze, cedar — and a charge to his son: be strong and courageous. 23 The Levites Organized David organizes the Levites for temple service. Twenty-four thousand assigned to the work. Worship at this scale requires structure. 24 Priestly Divisions Twenty-four divisions of priests arranged by lot. Each family knows its rotation. Order in the house of God. 25 The Musicians Two hundred and eighty-eight skilled musicians divided into twenty-four groups. Prophesying with lyres, harps, and cymbals. Music as ministry. 26 Gatekeepers and Treasurers Security and stewardship of the temple. Even the doors and the storerooms have dedicated servants. No role is too small. 27 Military and Civil Leaders David's army divisions, tribal chiefs, and royal overseers. A kingdom organized for peace as carefully as for war. 28 The Blueprint David hands Solomon the temple plans — given by the Spirit. Every detail, every measurement, every vessel. Build it exactly as shown. 29 A Generous Offering David gives from his personal treasury and the people give willingly. Then David prays one of Scripture's most beautiful prayers — and Solomon is crowned.
