The figure's head was white like wool or snow, and his eyes burned with blazing fire—imagery conveying ancient wisdom, moral purity, and the penetrating judgment of divine scrutiny.

Language and setting

White hair appears in Daniel 7:9 describing the Ancient of Days, the transcendent source of judgment. By transferring this description to the Son of Man, John asserts that Christ shares the Father's eternality and judicial authority. The blazing eyes (ophthalmoi de autou hos phlogos pyros) suggest divine omniscience—nothing escapes the risen Christ's scrutiny, a comfort to the faithful and terror to the unfaithful.
