Jesus rewound the story all the way to the garden. Before legal codes and loopholes, there was a beautiful design. And that's what He wanted them to see.
Jesus appeals to Genesis 1:27 ('male and female He created them') as the foundational text, asserting that God's creational design supersedes later legal accommodation. 'From the beginning of creation' (apo de archēs ktiseōs) grounds marriage in the creation order.
By going behind Moses to Genesis, Jesus establishes a hermeneutical principle: creation norms take priority over later legal concessions made for fallen humanity.
