The writer is making very specific promises: no harm, no plague. For listeners who've experienced loss, this would be either incredibly comforting or deeply challenging. The promises are rooted in verse 9—the conditional 'because.'

This raises real theological questions that the Bible addresses elsewhere—about suffering and why faithful people sometimes experience loss. Psalm 91 gives one perspective; Job and Lamentations give others. The full biblical picture includes mystery.

Continuing as guarantor (or perhaps divine voice), the psalmist articulates the covenant terms with juridical precision.
This recalls the Passover promise (Exodus 12:23) where the plague 'passes over' protected households, establishing a pattern where God's protection creates geographical and relational boundaries that death respects.
