God alone deserves reverent fear—no one else holds power or authority that compares to His, and when His anger is kindled, nothing stands against Him.

The transition marker 'You alone' (אַתָּה אַדִּיר, ʾattâ ʾaddîr) shifts from narrative recounting to doxological declaration. The rhetorical question 'who can stand before You?' echoes the courtroom language of covenant lawsuit (rîb)—establishing God's unquestionable authority. The Hebrew יִשְׁמַר (yišmar)—'to be feared'—carries connotations not of terror but of awe, reverence, the recognition of ultimate power and holiness. This verse functions as a transition: having narrated what God did, the psalmist now draws the theological consequence.
The community now addresses God directly in a more reflective mode: not reporting events but pronouncing cosmic truth.
This echoes the Psalter's recurring theme (cf. Psalm 2:11, 111:10) that the fear of God is the foundation of all right relationship—the antithesis of human pride and self-reliance.
