In a desert or arid region, a fountain was life. You'd navigate toward it, gather there, trust it. Bad teaching, by contrast, is a trap—attractive maybe, but leading nowhere good. Wise teaching does the opposite: it leads you away from the snares that would destroy you and toward actual life.
