The Jewish leaders are looking for Jesus at the feast, asking where He is. Even when He is not there, He is all anyone can talk about.
The tension is building. The leaders want to find Jesus, and the crowds are buzzing with curiosity.
The Gospel writer paints a picture of the atmosphere in Jerusalem as the feast begins.
Sometimes absence speaks louder than presence. Jesus has not even arrived yet, and He is already the most discussed person at the festival.
The Jewish leaders actively search (ezētoun) for Jesus at the feast, asking Pou estin ekeinos (Where is that one?), the demonstrative pronoun ekeinos carrying a dismissive or hostile tone.
The seeking is not the positive seeking of faith but hostile surveillance. Their question reveals that Jesus has become the most talked-about figure in Jerusalem even in His physical absence.
