Jesus promises again: whoever feeds on Him and drinks His blood has eternal life, and He will raise that person up on the last day. The promise is as real as a meal.
Jesus keeps repeating the same promise because He wants it to sink in. Eternal life and resurrection are guaranteed to those who fully depend on Him.
Jesus continues speaking to the crowd, repeating His promise so no one can miss it.
Four times now Jesus has promised to raise believers on the last day. He wants you to be absolutely sure: if you are His, your future is secure. He stakes His own word on it.
Jesus restates the positive promise: the one who trōgōn (munches/chews, a visceral verb intensifying phagō) His flesh and drinks His blood possesses eternal life, with the repeated resurrection promise.
The shift from phagō (eat) to trōgō (munch/gnaw) is deliberate and more graphic, resisting any attempt to spiritualize away the concrete reality of participation in Christ's sacrificial death.
Jesus continues pressing the crowd with increasingly vivid language, making the promise inseparable from the shocking metaphor.
Jesus uses the most physical, tangible verb for eating He can find. This is not abstract philosophy. Participation in His death and resurrection is meant to be as real and vital as food entering your body.
52At this, the Jews began to argue among themselves, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”
53So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you.
54Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink.
56Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him.
