John 14:12, in plain English

The scholar's commentary

Jesus makes a startling promise: believers will do the same works (erga) He does, and 'greater' (meizona) ones. The 'greater' likely refers to scope and extent, as the Spirit-empowered church will reach the entire world.

Language and setting

The 'greater works' are enabled by Jesus' departure to the Father and the subsequent sending of the Spirit. They are 'greater' not in kind but in geographical and numerical scope.
