1 Kings

1 A Kingdom's Twilight David is old. The question of succession defines everything that follows — not just for one family, but for an entire nation. 2 David's Last Orders David dies after giving Solomon a mix of wisdom and unfinished business. Some instructions are noble. Others are settling scores. 3 Solomon's Wisdom A young king asked to choose one gift. He doesn't ask for wealth or power. He asks for wisdom — and God gives him everything. 4 Solomon's Wisdom Solomon's court is vast, his provisions enormous, and his proverbs number three thousand. The wisest man alive — for now. 5 Preparing the Temple Solomon strikes a deal with Hiram of Tyre. Cedar and cypress from Lebanon. Eighty thousand stonecutters. The greatest building project in Israel's history begins. 6 The Temple Built Seven years of construction. Gold-covered walls, carved cherubim, and a promise: if you walk in my statutes, I will dwell among you. 7 Solomon's Palace Thirteen years building his own palace. The half was not told me, she says. His fame reaches its peak. 11 Solomon Falls Seven hundred wives turn his heart after other gods. The wisest man alive becomes the textbook case for how compromise destroys from within. 12 The Kingdom Splits Rehoboam listens to young advisors and threatens heavier burdens. Ten tribes walk away. The prophet arrives like a thunderclap. 18 Fire from Heaven One prophet. 450 false ones. A mountaintop. And a God who answers with fire. 19 The Still Small Voice After the greatest victory of his life, Elijah runs and hides. God meets him not in the wind or earthquake but in a quiet whisper. 20 Ahab's Wars Ahab defeats the Arameans twice — not because he's faithful, but because God wants him to know who the Lord is. Grace extended to the undeserving. 21 Naboth's Vineyard Ahab pouts. Jezebel plots. An innocent man dies for his land. Elijah delivers the verdict: where dogs licked Naboth's blood, they'll lick yours. 22 Micaiah's Warning Four hundred prophets say 'go to war.' One says 'you'll die.' The king disguises himself anyway. A random arrow finds the gap in his armor.
