Judah responds by reminding Jacob of Joseph's stern requirement: Benjamin must accompany them or they will be refused audience entirely.

The noun עֵדוּת (edut), translated 'warning,' carries juridical weight—suggesting Joseph's declaration possessed the force of binding covenant. Judah speaks here as voice of restraint and realism, having apparently emerged as negotiator during the first encounter. His response indicates the brothers have deliberated and reached consensus about the gravity of Joseph's condition.
