Jacob tells his sons plainly: grain is available in Egypt, so go get it—otherwise we'll starve to death.
Jacob isn't being gentle here; he's being urgent and direct. This is survival. He's heard somehow that Egypt has grain while other regions are empty-handed, and he's making the practical, logical decision that any parent would make to keep their family alive.

This command sets the entire reunion in motion. Jacob doesn't know he's sending his sons toward their brother; he only knows they need to survive.

Jacob's knowledge of Egypt's grain supply suggests either trade networks or direct report, indicating Egypt's prominence as the ancient Near East's granary.
