God kept His word to Sarah—something that had seemed impossible for decades finally happened. After waiting twenty-five years since God first promised her a son, Sarah is now pregnant.
Abraham and Sarah had been waiting so long that they'd given up hope. Sarah had even suggested Abraham have a child with her servant Hagar to fulfill the promise (which led to Ishmael's birth). Now, when both Abraham and Sarah are ancient, God does exactly what He said He would do—proving that His timing isn't our timing, and His faithfulness never expires.

This is the fulfillment of the covenant God made with Abraham in Genesis 12 and 17. The promised son—the one through whom God would build a nation and bless all humanity—is finally arriving. Everything in the Bible's story of salvation runs through this child.

The narrative establishes that this is not coincidence but divine intervention; the Hebrew pāqad (פָּקַד), meaning to 'visit' or 'attend to,' carries the weight of covenant remembrance and active divine intervention on behalf of the covenant partner.
