Some things that disobedient people do in secret are so shameful that you shouldn't even repeat them or give them a platform by talking about them.
This doesn't mean you can't discuss serious sins; it means don't become a purveyor of sensationalism or gossip about evil deeds. There's a humility here—some darkness is best left unnamed and unexploited.

Paul's reticence here is notable given his explicitness elsewhere (Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9). The phrase 'shameful even to mention' (aischron...kai legein) suggests concern for the congregation's ears and hearts—a pedagogical sensitivity about how vice should be addressed. Yet the very vagueness creates irony: the gravity of the sins he refuses to name exceeds what he might articulate, implying that some evils resist language itself.
